The Power of POP!

We’ve all been there – summer vacation rolls around every year. This is the time of year when most students might take some time to sleep in, wander through the day, hang out with friends, go to the beach (especially here in Florida), and live that summer life!

Which is totally cool. You worked hard all school year and are totally deserving of some relaxation time.

Buuut…you might remember just as you’re settling for that afternoon power nap that you have martial arts class that day! Oh no!

Important decision time: do you go to train, or do you stay in and sleep?

Summer is a time when many use it as an excuse to let down their guard and let the “lazy bug” meander his way into your life. People might put off practice until the last, LAST second, or not show up for class at all. Oftentimes we justify it by saying “I worked hard last week. Why would I go now?” or “I am so tired. I will work extra hard next week in class.”

There is no doubt that there is a time and place for rest, and there is a balance that has its place in every hard-working martial artist’s life!

However, do you have the perseverance to go on when that little lazy bug creeps his way into your thoughts? Only you know how far you could go, and only you can make the choice to wield one of your most powerful weapons: POP!

POP is your Power of Perseverance. It’s what happens when we choose discipline and training, even when it’s hard. It also plays into integrity…doing the right thing (showing up to class) when no one is watching. Perseverance says “nope” to that lazy bug and gets you back into the studio.

Perseverance is a lot like working a muscle. It might be hard at first to push the thought of “I can do it tomorrow” out of your mind. But after a while, it gets easier and easier to show up for yourself and absolutely crush your black belt goals!

Ultimately, it comes down to how you want to show up, and what sort of person you want to be.

So this summer, let’s show that lazy bug how training should be done so we can show up for our goals with the confidence and ability of someone who is ready to achieve their goals! (And not as someone who chose a few extra z’s during class time.)
